After a year long hiatus, the Denkiphile podcast is finally back, featuring writers Kevin Kartanata and Eldon Tsan! This week, we take a look at some of the current events going on in gaming, included some of the announcements from CES 2013 (including the Steam Box). Despite the holiday season just ending and putting a strain on all our pockets, game developers are ready to put on the pain again with new announcements for Cyberpunk 2077 and Pokémon X and Y. We wrap it up with a discussion on our anticipated games for the next two weeks, including DmC, Ni no Kuni, Strike Suit Zero.

Fighting game fans are in for a treat as we interview our first guest ever, Ty “ReNiC” Mitchell, who’s done various things for the fighting game community including a vast library of contributed videos and countless Alex victories in Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike. We discuss his plans for Capcom’s Cross Assault show, his plans for his “Growing the Beast” video series on YouTube, and his thoughts on modern fighting games as compared to some of his favorites like 3rd Strike. In addition to that, the staff discusses the DLC in Final Fantasy XIII-2 and some Gundam Extreme VS impressions. Afterwards, we talk about the recent announcement that Ni no Kuni coming to the US and that Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus‘s port to both PSN and XBLA with online play.

Despite Jhonny’s absence, the crew carries on with myself and newcomer Maria Canales. We talk about several multiplayer-based games, focusing on some of 2011′s most unique multiplayer games like Magicka and Trine 2, before focusing on the upcoming Asura’s Wrath and my recent experience at the LG Cup’s US Qualifiers. Continuing with the Capcom theme, we discuss the new announcement for Resident Evil 6 and news that Dead Rising 2 developer Capcom Vancouver will be working on a new IP, eventually springboarding into the age old discussion of creating new products versus utilizing established franchises.
